4-Letter-dot-Com…..LLLL.COM market alive or dead? Will you Buy, Sell, or Hold?
Four-Letter-dot-com i.e. 4L.com domains have been a hot topic of discussion among domainers for quite some time. Domain forums and domain blogs often discuss the LLLL.com values and if one should buy them or sell them?
Often times you can see the believers of LLLL.com saying that they will not sell their 4L.com domain cheap because they think they are rare, not available any more, short, possible acronyms, etc.
On the other hand many non-believer domainers think LLLL.com are too many to sustain high values, many of them are just random letters, and some even say that they will just drop because people who bought in the hype will drop them come renewal time
Both sides have some valid points and rightly so.
Unless you registered at the registration fees, then its ok to hold any kind of LLLL.COM domains as you will most likey make profit even if you sell at $30 per domain.
But I won’t suggest buying (in the secondary market at this time) LLLL.com domains that:
- are just random letters
- have hardly any premium letters (or less than 2 premium letters)
- have hardly have any meaning or acronym combination
- have no repeating letters
- are not pronounceable
I will like to hold long-term or look for some good deals for:
- Triple or Quad Premium domains
- Repeating Letters
- Pronounceable domains
These kind of 4L domains will sustain and rise in value over time. Many of these combinations are already selling very well.
Overall it appears that LLLL.COM prices will stay depressed until end of this year and then start to rebound. Buy-out happened around Nov 2007, so for sure many LLLL.COM will drop and thus keep downward pressure on overall LLLL.COM prices. Given that all the LLLL.COMs are registered, its no doubt that 4L.com domains will always have a special place as tokens among domainers.
LLLL.com market will be fun to watch over the next few years and it will be even more fun if you make your bets wisely now.
So what is your take on LLLL.COM domains: Buy, Sell, Hold, or Run……….?

I’d probably buy any LLLL .com right now, even those with the bad qualities listed above. Obviously, better letters and a better quality name will result in a higher turnaround later down the road, but many speculators believe that even the minimum price of a four-letter .com will increase over time.
I’m buying as many $25 LLLL .coms as I can right now in hopes that they’ll sell for closer to $100 in a few years. If they don’t increase in price, which is unlikely, I don’t lose a lot. I feel that short domains (four characters or less) are a relatively safe investment.
“Good” LLLL .coms are always nice to have. They tend to sell for four figures or higher. And think about it, many large corporations use “CVCV” (character-vowel-character-vowel) names — Visa, Nike, Fuji, Coke, Polo, Bebo, Puma, Sedo — to name a few.

Steve, you have made some good points and I will suggest buying domains that have better chance to sell. I am sure you are making good decisions.
