Domaining Revolution Vs Mystery Domain Auction : Where is the Revolution?
Well, you already know what I am about to write about, right?
There is a great deal of controversy brewing regarding yesterday’s launch of Mystery Domain Auction.
It appears that John Motson had hyped his “Domaining Revolution” project way too much and never really pointed out that the so called domaining revolution project was hardly any revolution but a catchy idea used with a domaining twist. The idea is old and it was originally used by Million Dollar Home page site. I think John showed creativity by giving it a domaining twist. But it is no domaining revolution and it won’t help the domain industry in my opinion.
Now I personally was expecting a real domaining revolution such as: new kind of domain parking company, and perhaps a mass domain development platform that provides unique websites for 1000s of domains quickly.
I am a little disappointed that John’s domaining revolution has hardly any thing in it that revolutionizes the domain industry. If he manages to pull it off, he sure will revolutionize his bank account
All in all, its something amusing, unexpected, and with a nice twist. Hopefully it will be a success for John.
Now lets get back to the drawing board: How can we bring revolution to the domain industry?
Your thoughts are welcome!

Hi John,
I have read your response. I think you have a point or two about mystery domain auction publicizing the domain industry to more people (if successful) but at the same time I am not sure if that will be a good form of publicity.
I will hope that you are successful and help domain industry become more main stream.
I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks for your response.

Btw, I read John’s response at many places and here is something I will quote from his response:
——————————————-
The last bidder to place their bid will receive the mystery domain name.
——————————————-The auction ends on April 1oth, 2009.
So does that mean whoever place the last bid on April 1oth will win the domain?
If yes, then I think many people are just wasting their money bidding early because these early bids don’t even count.
May be I misunderstood John Motson’s statement.
I hope he clears it up.

Good to know that John made a wise decision to avoid legal issues by stopping mystery-domain-auction, and also negative publicity for domaining imo.
